Waste Oil

The Fishers Island Waste Management District purchased a waste oil furnace this past winter. Once installed, the District hopes to not only have lower heating costs but help island residents and businesses by having another source to discard waste oil.
In the past, one would have to hold on to waste oil to discard at the Household Hazardous Waste day, which occurs every two years. Now, you can call to make arrangements to bring your used oil to our shop. At this time, we have limited storage, so please call us before coming. We will ask how much you have and when the best time to bring it by. For more information, please call 788-7459.
And remember, Household Hazardous Waste Day is Saturday, August 8th, from 9 am until 12 pm, at the Transfer Station. During this time, normal trash and recyclables will not be accepted but will be open from 1 pm until 4:30 pm to handle this.
The Compost Station will not be open on Saturday, August 8th

Swap Shop

Due to Tropical Storm Fay, to avoid damage to the “Swap Shop” tent the District just purchased, we have removed the tent and any light items. Also, please hold off on bringing any items that you may want to drop off. With the winds and rain expected, any items brought will be put in the dumpsters. Please visit us again starting Monday, July 13th.
